Her artworks have been acquired by the Tate Modern and other major collections around the world. She has exhibited at prestigious institutions including the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Centro Reina Sofia in Madrid and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney.
She represented Colombia at the 50th Venice Biennale (2003) and Australia at the 18th Sydney Biennale (2012). One of her best-known works, The Cardoso Flea Circus (1994-2000), toured internationally at venues including the Sydney Opera House, the Centre Pompidou, the Arts Festival Atlanta, the Fabric Workshop and Museum and the San Francisco Exploratorium, and later entered the collection of Tate Modern. She was recipient of the Australia Council for the Arts’ prestigious Creative Australia Fellowship in 2014 and won first prize at the first Bogota Biennale in 1990.
In 2022 she completed Ripples and Droplets (2022), a 335 square metres mural that is believed to be the largest public artwork by an Australian artist in the Sydney CBD.
